At mid-day, when the heat drives all of East Africa into the shade, you can lounge in the Amboseli Sopa Lodge’s pool, take a siesta in your comfortable room or meet fellow travelers for a refreshing drink at the bar. This is also an excellent place to see gazelle, leopards, impalas and hippos. You will encounter many of them as you explore the Malaika Waterfall, beautiful Lake Nakuru and the surrounding forests. Highlights – Arrive at the amazing Maasai Mara National Reserve; enjoy an afternoon game drive.

[Alt: Nyumbu Camp]
Meal Plan: Full Board – Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Activity: Transfer to Maasai Mara National Reserve and enjoy an afternoon game drive.
You should be sure to have a hearty breakfast today, because afterward you will enter the Maasai Mara National Reserve for an absolutely ideal African safari adventure. Here are the grasslands, wildlife and adventure that Westerners have come to associate with a safari. During the afternoon’s game drive you will see jackals, lions, wildebeests, zebras and many other species. You will also meet Kenya’s nomadic people, the Maasai, and get an insight into their lives as cattle-herding nomads. With its simple elegance and style, Mara Sopa Lodge provides unsurpassed peace and tranquility in the heart of Africa. Located in close proximity to teeming wildlife, this uniquely Kenyan property appeals to travelers bored with the ordinary and in search of a closer connection with Mother Nature. The sunsets here are the stuff of journals and profound reflection.
Day 6: Second day at the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
Highlights – Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives at the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
Accommodation: Mara Sopa Lodge
[Alt: Nyumbu Camp]
Meal Plan: Full Board – Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Activity: Morning and afternoon game drives.
One day at Maasai Mara is not nearly enough. You will be glad you have this second day to enjoy this part of Kenya. The morning and afternoon game drives will introduce you to buffalo, hyena, cheetah, antelope and much more. While any time of year is wonderful to visit Africa, those who visit between July and October will see the Great Migration, when zebras, Thomson’s gazelles and wildebeests travel across the Serengeti – it is a massive migration and is truly awe-inspiring. No matter when you visit, you will also have a chance to take a “walking safari”, or visit a local tribal village if you wish. You will learn about the Maasai way of life and how they have managed to retain their semi-nomadic customs even in today’s modern world, when so much of their world is at risk. After all these adventures, you will be more than ready for a mid-day nap or laze on the veranda to escape the heat of the day.
Day 7: Pre-dawn game drive at the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
Highlights – Enjoy a pre-dawn game drive on your last morning at the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
Meal Plan: Breakfast
Activity: Pre-dawn game drives before breakfast; transfer back to Nairobi City.
Today you will have the rare chance to see Kenya in darkness. You will experience a whole new world on the pre-dawn game drive, offering a glimpse of Africa that few people ever see. You will watch nocturnal animals end their day as the daytime world begins anew. When you have finished your excursion, you will be more than hungry enough for the breakfast feast that will be a fitting close to your seven-day adventure. You will not want to leave your new-found friends, but you will have plenty of time to linger a bit before traveling to Nairobi at your convenience. You will have plenty of time to hunt for souvenirs (perhaps some Maasai wood carvings or tribal jewelry) for yourself, or to give as gifts to your loved ones. Your host will escort you to the airport and help you catch your flight home.
Your African safari will be a week that you and your companions will always remember.
