Jambo and welcome to Nairobi, Kenya! Nairobi is a hub for dynamic and innovative artists, journalists, entrepreneurs and business people, and the city is constantly changing. Whilst many travelers stay just one night in Nairobi, a two night stay will leave the traveler with a true taste of one of Africa’s most vibrant cities. Your host will be on hand when you arrive at the airport and will take you to the Fairmont Norfolk Hotel. This luxurious and elegant hotel is one of Nairobi’s finest and has a seasoned history of a hosting leisure as well as business travelers dating back in the early 1900's. The hotel has its own private tropical gardens and is still the traditional starting point for many high end safaris.

Our representative will help with checking in at your hotel and brief you for the safari ahead. Thereafter, take a minute to enjoy a few drinks at the Lord Delamere Terrace, or explore the variety of fine dining experiences whilst you relax and unwind after your flight. If you’re ready for sleep, you’ll immediately relax in your luxurious room, with its fine linens. In the morning you’ll be refreshed and ready to go. Who says a safari has to be rustic?

Day 2: Spend a full day in Nairobi with excursions.

Meal Plan: Breakfast & Dinner
Activity: Visit Giraffe Center, Kazuri Bead Factory and Karen Blixen Museum.

After breakfast, you will be picked up from Fairmont the Norfolk for a day of excursions with visits to some of Nairobi’s highlights starting at AFEW Giraffe Center, the historic Karen Blixen Museum and then visit Kazuri beads center where you will have the opportunity to meet Kenyan women at work working in a bead factory and buy some Kenya souvenirs, if you wish! African Fund for Endangered Wildlife Kenya also known as the Giraffe Centre was founded in 1979 by the late Jock Leslie- Melville, a Kenyan citizen of British descent and his wife the late Betty Leslie Melville an American citizen.  Jock’s extra ordinary vision of creating an educational institution in conjunction with rescuing the endangered Rothschild giraffes resulted in the present day Giraffe Centre that has become a World famous Nature Education Centre. Karen Blixen Museum is located on the outskirts of Nairobi on Karen road. Its history dates back to 1914, during the First World War, with the arrival of Karen Blixen from Denmark. At the foot of Ngong Hills, Karen Blixen established herself as a farmer. After her departure in 1931, the suburbs retained the commemorative home of Karen. This is the beautiful farmhouse where Karen Blixen, author of Out of Africa, lived between 1914 and 1931, until she left Kenya after a series of personal tragedies. Kazuri Bead Centre, a self-help women project where handmade ceramics and jewelry are produced. Kazuri beads produce brightly-colored, handmade ceramic jewelry which are sold all over the world. It supports literally hundreds of disadvantaged Kenyan women, by providing employment and healthcare services for them and their families. A great day is capped with a welcome dinner at the Carnivore Restaurant before you retire to your hotel for overnight.

Day 3: Fly to Amboseli followed by an afternoon game drive.

Accommodation: Ol Tukai Lodge
    [Alt: Tortilis Camp]
Meal Plan: Full Board - Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.
Activity: Transfer to Amboseli; enjoy an afternoon game drives.

After a tasty breakfast and safari briefing, it is time to head out to Wilson Airport in Nairobi for your scheduled flight to Amboseli National Park, considered the prime location in the world for viewing wild elephants. Nothing can beat the site of these magnificent creatures with Mount Kilimanjaro as their backdrop. The mountain is the world’s highest free-standing mountain and its majesty will take your breath away. In addition, you’ll see plenty more wildlife – including giraffes, lions and cheetahs. You’ll know this is a real safari as you travel over the rugged roads to the park and later on your afternoon game drive.

Upon arrival at the local airstrip, you will be met by your local driver guide and with a short game drive en route, check in at your lodge. It is an exciting day and you’ll be grateful for a chance to unwind at the Lodge, which more than lives up to its serene name. The décor is inspired by the indigenous Maasai people and it harmonizes with the Kenyan terrain beautifully. Walk through the beautifully landscaped gardens to enjoy a delicious meal, including many local food items.

Day 4: Morning and afternoon game drives at Amboseli National Park.

Accommodation: Ol Tukai Lodge
     [Alt: Loisaba Lodge]
Meal Plan: Full Board - Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.
Activity: Morning and afternoon game drives.

Rising early for good views of Mount Kilimanjaro before clouds build up over the summit, we set off for another stimulating game drive. Romantically situated in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, Amboseli is famous for its tremendous variety of big game. Amboseli is an excellent place to view a multitude of wildlife, including everything from Lions, Cheetah to Wildebeest to Giraffes to Baboons. Undoubtedly, you will also see many of the more than 400 species of birds that inhabit the park. Amazingly, the sites you see in the morning will be quite different from those you’ll see on the afternoon game drive as the various creatures respond to their unique biological clocks.

Depending on the time of year, the terrain will vary – from Ernest Hemingway’s “Snows of Kilimanjaro” to the hot dry summer to the life-giving rainy season – but it will always be beautiful. The routes taken will depend on weather conditions but they all offer unforgettable scenery, so keep your camera ready. You will also have the chance to take a “walking safari” for a close up view of Kenya, along with an optional visit to an authentic tribal village. When you need a break, take a dip in the lodge’s pool or take a nap in your cool, comfortable room.

Day 5: Fly to Loisaba followed by afternoon game drives at Loisaba Conservancy.

Accommodation: Loisaba Lodge
     [Alt: Loisaba Lodge]
Meal Plan: Full Board - Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.
Activity: Transfer to airstrip for flight to Nairobi and connect with flight to Loisaba; enjoy game drives.

After breakfast, check out and transfer to the local airstrip for your scheduled flight to Loisaba (connecting at Wilson airport). Upon arrival at the local airstrip, you will be met by your lodge driver-guide and with a short game drive en route, check in at your lodge. Enjoy your lunch at the lodge thereafter an evening game drive. After only a few hours here, you will see the world anew, thinking more clearly about the basics of life brings everything else into focus. Loisaba is not just a holiday destination of peerless beauty and infinite variety; it is a practical project in sustainable land-use. This basic premise infiltrates every part of the ranch. The diverse habitats of the conservancy support a wide variety of wildlife. It is a haven for over 260 species of birds and 50 species of mammal. Alongside more usual animals there are elephant, buffalo, Grevy's zebra and greater kudu. The area is also rapidly gaining a reputation for exceptional big cat sightings. Even wild dog, thought for many years to be extinct in the region are now appeared to be re-colonizing Laikipia and are closely monitored in this area. That said, this is not a place to come and tick off large numbers of big game, but rather somewhere to enjoy the wildlife in an area of pristine wilderness.

Day 6: Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives at Loisaba Conservancy.

Accommodation: Loisaba Lodge
Meal Plan: Full Board - Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.
Activity: Morning and afternoon game viewing drives.

Loisaba Lodge is untamed bush but also a working cattle farm; it conducts important wildlife research and - crucially - works closely with the community who have defended this land for generations. Guests see Africa as it was before fences were invented. Here there are no game park rules, no caged animals and none of the constraints of western life. Like the wildlife we nurture, you can do whatever you want, whenever you want. The local Samburu and Maasai tribes are full partners in the project so your visit not only conserves the environment but also pays for the education and welfare of the people who call this remote and magnificent region home. To the north lie the grassy plains of the plateau; to the south, the plateau breaks into valleys, cliffs and escarpments that frame stunning views up to the snows of Mount Kenya. At their base lies a different riverine ecosystem on the banks of two major rivers, the Ewaso N'giro and the Engare Narok.

Day 7: Fly to Maasai Mara National Reserve followed by an afternoon game drive.

     [Alt: Sand River Masai Mara]
Meal Plan: Full Board - Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.
Activity: Transfer to Maasai Mara before an afternoon game drive.

After breakfast at your hotel, you will be transferred to Loisaba airstrip for your scheduled flight to Maasai Mara, home of the Maasai tribe, where you can see how the tribe preserves their traditions at first hand. The Mara area is considered to be essential when on an African wildlife trip and the area boasts one of the largest wildlife populations. You will see beautiful Savannah grasslands that are full of acacia trees and the wildlife you've always dreamed of seeing, including jackals, wildebeests, lions and gazelles. The setting will certainly make you feel as though you're in harmony with your surroundings. This is what comes to mind when most people think of a safari. Your time here will certainly give you a sampling of all the natural wonders that Kenya has to offer. Upon arrival at the local airstrip, you will be met by your local driver guide and with a short game drive en route, check in at your camp. Enjoy your lunch at the lodge thereafter an evening game drive. Maasai Mara is perhaps the only region left in Kenya where the visitor may see animals in the same super-abundance as existed a century ago.

Day 8: A full day of exploration of the Mara on morning and afternoon game drives.

\

      [Alt: Sand River Masai Mara]
Meal Plan: Full Board - Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.
Activity: Morning and afternoon game-drives.

You will be able to see Kenya's famed wildlife up close; including cheetahs, zebras, buffalo, wildebeests, hyenas, antelope, giraffes and lions. These drives will certainly provide a number of outstanding photo opportunities. The accommodations at the Lodge included private verandas and restrooms located en suite. You can easily catch a quick nap in your room, or visit the pool and bar area while you're waiting for your next game-drive. You can also go on a walking tour with one of the rangers from the reserve, or stop by the Maasai village to experience their hospitality and culture.

Day 9: Mid-Morning flight to Nairobi.

Meal Plan: Breakfast
Accommodation: Fairmont The Norfolk Hotel (Day room)
    [Alt: The Boma]
Activity: Fly to Nairobi and transfer to your hotel. Airport departure transfer

You will start this morning with your final safari breakfast feast.  It’s a fitting repast to end your African safari, so take your time and enjoy it.  After your flight back to Nairobi you’ll have time to hunt for the perfect souvenirs for your loved ones back home (and perhaps a lovely memento for yourself) or you may choose to just relax at your hotel. When you are ready, your host will drive you to the airport and see that you get to your flight in plenty of time.  We want the last hours of your Kenya safari to be as relaxed and trouble-free as the rest of the trip has been.
