Kenya Climate

The equator runs through the middle of Kenya.  One half is in the northern hemisphere and the other half is in the southern hemisphere as such the climate can vary significantly depending on the location. For instance the coastal regions are hot and humid. Inland cities are temperate. The northern reaches are extremely dry.

The warmest season in Kenya is February and March. The coldest is July and August. At this time of the year, parts of the country especially inland cities can get pretty nippy. It’s wise to pack a warm jacket or coat if your African Safari in Kenya is in July or August.

Kenya has two rain seasons. The long rains run from late March to May.  The short rains run from October to November.

The capital cities Nairobi enjoy a mild climate with highs of 77 degrees and lows of 56 degrees Fahrenheit. In Mombasa – the second largest city and main regional port along the Kenyan Coast, you can expect more tropical like climate. Here temperatures range from lows of 73 and highs of 86 degrees Fahrenheit.

January and February are generally dry months.  March to May are the wet months. June to September is a dry period while October to December is wet due to the short rains.
