Power
A generator supplies the lodge with electricity (240v, 50 cycles).  The generator runs from 0600-0730, 1030-1300 & 1830-2130.  All the lights in your room & the public areas run off inverters which are available 24 hours a day, but please ensure they are switched off when not needed as they only hold a limited amount of power.
Sockets for hairdryers and shavers are available in each room but only operate during generator hours.

Hot Water
The water is heated via solar panels.  These are connected to a circulation pump with runs between 0600-0900 and 1700-2000.  At these times the hot water should come to your room within 5 minutes.  Outside these times, the hot water may take as long as 10-15 minutes.

Bottled Water
Bottled water is provided in your room.  We recommend the use of bottled water for brushing teeth.  Ice is made from filtered water.  Hot water in the rooms is heated by solar power.  It may take a short while for the hot water to come through the pipes.

Bedrooms
The room ladies turn down your bedding in the evening while you are out and will give the room a spray.  When leaving your room after dark, please close the door and turn out all lights to discourage insects.  A flashlight is provided in each room.

Laundry
Laundry is washed daily.  Please place laundry (with the exception of intimates) in the basket in the bathroom.  All clothing items are hand washed. Washing powder is provided in your room for such a purpose.  Please expect your clothes back the next day .

Meals
Breakfast at the lodge is served in the dining room up to 9.30am.  Lunch is served al fresco by the pool under the shade of trees at 1pm.  Afternoon tea is available from 4pm on the deck.  Dinner is at 8pm in the dining room unless you are taking a bush dinner.  Dinners are usually taken ‘en famille’.

Guests are free to come for drinks & canapés in the sitting room before dinner when morning wake up calls with tea, coffee, hot chocolate or fruit juice (these are brought to your verandah) are also arranged.

Vegetables & Fruit
Everything possible is homegrown.  No artificial fertilizers, sprays or chemicals are used. The staff are always happy to show guests around the vegetable gardens close to the airstrip.

Gift Shop
Loisaba’s shop is adjacent to the swimming pool.  Many items are made by villagers in the surrounding area to support local communities.

Communications
Internet access is available all the time (free v- sat internet connection) in the Loisaba Lodge sitting room.  There is also wi-fi in this area.
Mobile phones: There is no mobile phone signal.at the lodge.

Wildlife
Here at Loisaba you are in true African wilderness.  Whilst walking around the lodge you may see a number of female kudu who enjoy our bountiful gardens!  Please feel free to take photos of them although it is best not to venture too close.  From time to time elephant venture into the lodge grounds – usually late at night - to also enjoy the richness of our gardens but unfortunately not in so delicate a manner.  As they also pose a safety risk, it may be that our night watchmen need to set off a couple of fire crackers to move them away.  Please do not be alarmed if this happens.   Should you have any concerns during the night please call ‘askari’ for the night watchmen to help.  In serious cases, there is an air horn in your room which is for use in emergencies.

Check Out
Check out is 10.00 a.m for all departures.  You are requested to have all bags ready at this time to allow the lodge time to prepare the rooms for arriving guests. Late checkout can be arranged upon request depending on demand.

Tipping
A tip box is available for those who wish to leave a thank you for the lodge team.  This is left to your discretion but we are happy to advise.  Tips are divided between all the staff who have helped to make your stay enjoyable.  Guides and Spa Therapists, however, are not included in the tip box.  Please feel free to tip them directly.  It is fine to tip in foreign currency (USD, Euro or UKL), if preferred, as the lodge can change it into Kenya shillings for the staff.
